Strengthening community begins with the first step.

For us it starts on the Front Step.

My goal: To highlight & bring a smile to the faces of our community, during a time when we might not see them

in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym. At the same time, raising awareness for those affected by cancer during these unprecedented times.

About the founders of the #TheFrontStepsProject:

#TheFrontStepsProject, a “coffee moment” idea between Kristen Collins and Boston photographer Cara Soulia

kicked off in Needham, MA on March 18, 2020.

The Front Steps Project, was created on March 18, 2020 as a fundraiser for the Needham Community Council in Needham, Massachusetts. Participation was voluntary and limited to the residents of Needham, MA. The organizers wanted to find a way to unite and give back to their community during these uncertain times. The organizers were surprised and thrilled the idea spread and that individuals and groups from hundreds of other towns in the U.S., Canada and throughout the world replicated #TheFrontStepsProject in their own communities.

who am i?

I am a British photographer based in the lakeside village of Gland in Vaud, Switzerland.

why am i doing it?

I heard about this project via social media and absolutely LOVE the idea of bringing communities together, by capturing real life, right on their doorsteps during this pandemic.

The idea started in the very 1st lockdown and was a huge success across the globe.

As if 2020 couldn't get any worse, it did, and at the end of 2020, my dear sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.

This encouraged my decision to start my own front steps project, in order to raise funds for a local cancer charity, as well as raising awareness for breast cancer in particular, with the goal of giving hope and joy to those who have been affected by cancer, whether personally or with loved ones, near and far, during these uncertain, isolating times.

My charity of choice is ESCA Cancer Support:

'Support for those affected by cancer is now even more important than ever.'

how it will work..

Locations will be: Geneva, Nyon, Gland, Rolle and surrounding local villages.

The aim is to bring people together by taking five-minute “Front Steps Portraits” of local residents.

I will arrange a convenient date to snap super fast images of families on their front steps. In exchange for the professional image, I ask for a donation to my chosen cancer charities: ESCA Cancer Support

You will know when I am coming!

You can step outside, where I will be standing near your front entrance at a distance, at least 2 meters away. I will take a couple of quick shots and leave. I physically interact with no one, and touch nothing, during these sessions.

I *do* smile and laugh with you, however, and don’t we all need a little bit of that right now?!

After your quick session, I will email you the digital file of your portrait. In exchange, we ask you to make a good faith donation to ESCA CancerSupport (link to be added) who offer free support services to those affected by cancer in the Lake Geneve region’.

We will be posting these images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #thefrontstepsproject.

This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Do you want to stand outside in your pj's and slippers? Sounds good to us. Kids in mismatched clothes, but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic! Wearing your ski gear because you’re headed off to the pistes? Love it!

Be you..
